The “Trooper” was presented by Colt’s Manufacturing Company in 1953, as the response to the requests of developing the medium frame revolver with a lower weight. The “Trooper” was lighter and handier model than its rival S&W Model 28 “Highway Patrolman”.

The “Trooper” was presented by Colt’s Manufacturing Company in 1953, as the response to the requests of developing the medium frame revolver with a lower weight. The “Trooper” was lighter and handier model than its rival S&W Model 28 “Highway Patrolman”.
The “Trooper” is a double-action, medium frame revolver, chambered for .38, .22. .357 calibers. This revolver was available in several barrel lengths including 4”, 6” and 8”. It was originally designed as a better-priced alternative to the Colt .357 and the Colt Python, selling to the professionals of law enforcement agencies as well as to civilians collectors and gun’s enthusiasts. There were several variants introduced by CMC such as “Border Patrol”, “ MKIII”, “Lawman” and “Whitetailer”.
The original “Trooper” was a heavy-barreled variant of the Officers Model Match, built on the Colt’s medium frame. It was available in .22 Long Rifles, .38 Special and followed later on by .357 Magnum and .22 WMR calibers.
Early “Troopers” models were manufactured with fine carbon steel, in blued and nickel-plated finishes. There were Target and Service gun versions of Trooper available. Target model featured a sporting Walnut grips, adjustable iron sights and a wider target hammers. Service model had smaller hammer and stocks, fixed sights, with 4” and 6” barrels was designed as a “practice” firearm. Both models contained the “forget and labor-intensive hand-fitted internal lock-work”.
Production of the original “Trooper” was discontinued in 1962. There was a new updated version of “Trooper” model introduced, chambered for. 357 and production continued up to 1985.
