The first Colt Cobra model was introduced in 1950. It is a double-action, aluminum-framed revolver, built on D frame. It was chambered for . 38 Special, . 32 Colt New Police, and . 22 LR.

The first Colt Cobra model was introduced in 1950. It is a double-action, aluminum-framed revolver, built on D frame. The “Cobra” was available in two gun variants. The first model was in production between 1950-1971, with 2” barrel length and weighted 15.9 oz. The second, improved model was developed in 1972 and was notable by its shrouded ejector rod, with weights 15.9 oz.
There were several sub-variants introduced within the years, such as Colt “Aircrewman”, Colt Courier, Colt Agent and Colt Viper.
The “Air-crewman” was an ultra-lightweight gun version of the Detective Special model. It was in production between 1951-1957, for the use of US Air Force only.
The “Courier” revolver was chambered for .22 Long rifle, 32 S&W, and 32 Colt NP. This revolver was made of aluminum alloy, in production between 1954-1956, with only around 3000 produced items.
The “Agent” model was a lower-price version of the original Colt Cobra revolver. It was available in blued finish, 2” barrel and weighed just 14 oz. Production was stopped in 1986.
The “Viper” bore was basically a 4” barreled version of the Colt Cobra revolver, chambered for .38 Special calibers. Production of this revolver took only a year. And in recent years, this model is very collectible and available in high prices.
